Double Parlor
The front and rear parlor were the grandest rooms in the house – and meant to impress. They were used primarily for entertaining, both for social calling, formal dinners or parties, but also for visits from friends. All the details in these rooms speak to the wealth and taste of the family, such as the massive gilt mirror between the windows; the Italian black-and-gold marble mantel; the French carpet, red silk damask draperies, and suite of Rococo Revival furniture; the bronze gas chandelier; and the rosewood square pianoforte.
